The Waking the Dead team use cutting-edge forensic technology and old-fashioned police work to reinvestigate old cases where every lead has come to a dead end. The quick-tempered Inspector Boyd reopens the files on yet more intensely gripping murder mysteries. As usual, the strong personalities on his team have a tendency to clash and tempers often flare! Episodes comprise: 'Towers Of Silence', 'Black Run', 'Subterraneans', 'Straw Dog', 'Undertow' and 'Cold Fusion'. With the best minds in psychology, forensics and detection on the case, and up-to-the-minute techniques at their disposal, if anyone can track down a killer years after a murder, they can.
The Cold Case team is a crack squad of police investigators who reopen unsolved murder cases, using new technology to re-examine evidence that hopefully will lead to the killer. They are at the cutting edge of modern police investigation, but they have been given just one year to prove their worth. Their first case is the abduction and murder of Alice Miller, a young girl who disappeared five years ago. As the team gets to work, they inadvertently trigger the killer to strike again in exactly the same manner as before, and the Cold Team find themselves solving past and present crimes at the same time. The return of the dedicated Cold Case investigators in this gripping, contemporary drama. They are faced with the challenge of four unsolved crimes which have lain dormant for years: the suspicious death of a war photographer in a car accident; a skull buried for 20 years in a church crypt which shakes the local Catholic community to its core; a double murder to which a woman confessed and served 25 years in prison, and a policewoman - was she the victim of a stalker, her estranged husband or the father of her unborn daughter?
'Waking the Dead' is probably the best detective drama that has ever been made, and holds this title justifiably because it is so markedly different from other alternatives. This series is, in a word, stunning. The plots of the episodes are tightly controlled, filled with tension, and the wonderful dynamic between Sue Johnston's calm, pragmatic psychologist and Trevor Eve's manic, instinctive Superintendant make the series worth watching on its own. Although a few episodes in the first series were somewhat weaker than the main, you can't find any holes in this series. Every episode is simply riveting.
The quick-tempered Chief Inspector Boyd (Trevor Eve) reopens the files on four more unsolved crimes in this series of tensely gripping murder mysteries. Challenges facing Boyd's crack team of investigators include a victim of child abuse seeking revenge for the death of his twin, a family murder with vital evidence to be recovered from the bottom of the sea, the increasing likelihood of a mystery second man involved in a high-street massacre, and a cult film tied to the discovery of four bodies in a Notting Hill house, 1960s gangsterland and the background history of one of the team. With the best minds in psychology, forensics and detection on the case, and cutting-edge techniques at their disposal, if anyone can track down a killer years after a murder, they can. Episodes include: Multistory; Walking On Water; Breaking Glass; Final Cut, with cast: Trevor Eve, Sue Johnston, Holly Aird, Claire Goose, and Wil Johnson.
Once again, the cold case team around Peter Boyd (Trevor Eve) and Grace Foley (Sue Johnson) crack cases that have been forgotten or could not be solved earlier due to lack of modern forensics. We have come to expect extremely chilling story lines, ingenuity by forensic pathologist Frankie Wharton (Holly Aird), stress and tensions within the team which do not always see eye to eye (Mel Silver - Claire Goose questions Boyd's motives, just when the team is threatened with being taken over), and these keep this police drama taught and full of suspense. Be prepared for a shock ending.
